DIY sparkle nail polish

As I sit here typing this blog post, there are currently six grown men running around on top of my house, hammering and scraping and making more noise than you would assume is humanely possible.

But you can be sure that I'm not complaining about this, because after all, I have a roof over my head. And not only that, I have the resources to get a brand new roof over my head. I know there are many many people in this world who cannot say the same, and for that I am grateful for my blessings.

I'm also grateful I have a car, because after I get this blog post up and take care of a few things, Isabelle and I are out. of. here.

While I'm out and about, I wanted to leave you with this post on sparkly nail polish. I love glitter. But I was always disappointed with any of the glitter polishes I bought. They didn't really sparkle. So several years ago, I created my own solution.

This is what you'll need:
You actually only need one color of nail polish, but I've had that bright pink one for so long that the polish has dried in the lid, and it's super hard to get it open, and I wasn't sure if I'd be getting to use it or not. The lighter pink was my backup.

But the secret is the glitter! It's craft glitter (I got mine at Michael's years ago) and you want the finest (read: teeniest sparkles) glitter you can find.

Start with clean, polish free toes.
(Side note, this is what I looked like on the day I got that little heart tattoo:
haha. Don't you love that scrunched, tensed up ahhhhhh I'm scared but I'm gonna smile pose?)

Back to the nails.

Paint your first coat of polish.

Once you're ready for your second coat, paint just a few nails at a time, and then stop to sprinkle on the glitter. You want to apply the glitter while the polish is still really wet so it'll stick well.

And then, ta-da!!

Pictures don't really do it justice, but I promise this is the most sparkly you've ever seen nails. When I have my nails done like this, people stop me all the time to complement it and ask about it.

But I'll warn ya, and pardon my french, this is a pain in the ass to remove. You've been warned.

And with that, I'm out! I hope your house is much more peaceful than mine today :)

Do you have any tattoos?
or
What's your favorite color of nail polish?

  1. I have some nail polish by O.P.I. that has huge chunks of glitter in it, and you are right -- That stuff is a BITCH to remove. It takes me probably 15 minutes to get as much of the glitter off as possible before I just give up and deal with chunky nail polish for the next month.
    Ridiculous.
But at least it's pretty. :)

  3. No tattoos for me but that's more about me being scared and indecisive than anything else. :) I love OPI's Strawberry Moji-Toe for my toes and have been really into nude polish for my nails lately (maybe because its less noticeable when it chips?).
Hope your roof is fixed soon!

  4. Super cute! My toes could desperately use this. I got a pedicure the week of Christmas...and I haven't even taken what's left of the polish off from that. Yikes!

  5. Tattoos? Negative. ;)

Polish? Let's start by saying I don't like feet. Not mine, not my husbands. No one's. Nope. I think they're gross. (But not yours, Meggie!) However, even though I almost never paint my fingernails, I almost always have my toes done. Go figure.

Oh...and red. My favorite color (for my toes) is red. ;)

  7. That is such a terrfific idea! and much easier than going to get them done!
What a fantabulous paint job btw :) I never can seem to stay in the lines, kind of funny but my husband offers to paint my toes lol.

  8. I have 2 tats and I want a 3rd, but my husband is giving me a hard time about it :)

I could never put a close up pic of my feet on the blog. Running does not equal pretty feet, no matter how much they sparkle!

It's funny, your feet don't LOOK freakishly small enough for kid's shoes :)

  9. Love the finished product, looks so good! I only wear hot pink, like florescent pink in the summer and red with glitter in the winter or just plain red. I was OBSESSED with OPI's Burlesque line this winter. Seriously all I wore. Great post!

  11. OO sparkly. I love sparkly stuff, although I'm lucky if my toes have paint on them at all. I have 3 tattoos...one on my back, my oldest daughter Kayla's name on the back of my neck and Kyleigh's name on my wrist.

  17. What a fun, spontaneous way to pretty up the toes! I've been getting back into polishes after a several year hiatus. Next up is a lemony yellow I got at Target a few weeks ago!

  22. Oh I love your tattoo! I have one on my back, but I'd like to get another one. Yours is so cute! Also, this post reminded me that I *really* need to get a pedicure before I leave for Jamaica! I think I might do a fun color like you!

  23. No tats for me...I am way to chicken to committ to and image that I would love forever. I can hardly decide what to make for dinner never mind what kind of tattoo I would want!

Cute polish idea. It's almost warm enough in my neck of the woods to expose my feet to the light of day:)
