Do you see what I see?

Here I am, blogging and working hard in real life. And yes, our table is almost always this messy. To the left of me, you see my stack of papers, including my ever present to-do list on that pink pad. To my right, you see Kaylee's yellow-colored stomach for a science fair body project they're working on. And in the front left hand corner, you can see a little bit of Kaylee's most recent art project - a colorful mosaic-like rainbow.

Allow me to present a brownie fail.

At my daughter's school, parents sign up to provide snacks for the teachers and staff once a week. Yes, this sounds really nice and awesome, and it is, except that it's the same 10 or so parents who cover the entire year. But a lack of volunteers is not my complaint for this particular post.

This week was another one of my weeks and I decided I'd make brownies. My plan was to make chocolate fudge brownies with white chocolate chips both mixed in and swirled on top.

So I made the brownies, mixed in some chocolate chips, and baked as usual.
At about 7 minutes til they were supposed to be finished, I took the pan out, sprinkled white chocolate chips on top, and returned the pan to the oven. In my mind, the chips would sit in the oven for the final seven minutes and get all melty and then I'd use a fork to swirl the melted chocolate around, producing something like this:

Instead, I ended up with this:
 Semi-burnt, and crumbly chocolate chips.

Here, let me show you a little bit closer:
See how the chips just kind of crumbled when I tried to artfully swirl them with a fork?

I have no idea what went wrong. The brownies still tasted delicious, but they sure weren't going to win any beauty awards.

I made sure to sneak in the teacher's lounge and drop them off when no one was looking. Usually I'm all proud of my baking masterpieces, but not this time!
Any idea what I did wrong??

And lastly, let's play a little game of do you see what I see.

I know for a fact that my sweet baby Isabelle came from my husband and me, but I'm afraid one might think she's part of another family.

  6. Two Comments.
One: lol I always get frustrated when stuff like this happens to me (sometimes more than others). I'll admit, the majority of my food just tastes good but is nothing what the cookbook says it should look like.
Two: Your baby is sooooooo sweet. I love seeing pictures of her. :)

  8. I don't know what caused that mishap, except to say perhaps it would be beter to use white chocolate squarees instead of chips. Or maybe you should melt the chocolate, swirl it, then finish baking.

And YES, I do see the resemblance. lol

  9. I don't think it matters what the brownies looked like as long as they were delicious.

Isabelle is so cute it's ridiculous.

  13. Love it. Think I've seen similar legs on my girl. The rolls are so tight! :)

  14. Next time use MELTS, not chips. Chips are not made to be melted down, they are made to harden when cooked. They make ones just for the purpose of being melted though! Sorry that ended up happening! :(

  15. Chocolate Chips of any kind don't melt. If you want it to melt, you'll have to chop some good chocolate bars up and use those pieces. You notice in chocolate chip cookies that the chips hold their form right? They don't melt that easily. ;) I bet they still tasted amazing!

  16. Ha ha ha...that baby & the Michelin Man side by side made me GIGGLE!!!

Your brownies don't have to look like they were made by Martha. As long as they taste good, that's all that matters! I say, who cares if they're pretty? They won't be on the plate long enough to be admired! Heehee!

  17. OMG that is hilarious! Look at her arms! Too cute...sadly my little guy has zero chunk...:( I'm hoping he'll fatten up soon! Sorry about the brownies...that's so weird about the chips...usually chocolate melts and you can just swirl it like you said. Strange!

  22. ok so the brownies/choc chip thing didnt turn out picture perfect, but did it taste good??
and how many times can I say how much I LOOOOOOOOOVE baby rolls? Oh my gosh that is adorable. ADORDABLE.

  23. I'm no baker so I can't help you out there. :) And we actually call our youngest the michelin baby. She resembles him too. ;) There is nothing cuter than a baby with lots of rolls.

  24. LoL...The Michelin Man! That's hilarious. When I was a baby, I was so fat I've been told I was called things like "Heavy Chevy".

I have no idea about the brownies. From looking at the picture of what you were going for, it seems like the chocolate on top would need to be swirled in before the brownies are baked, but I really have no idea. I'm sure they were delicious, though!

  25. I made swirl brownies like that and it was two different kinds of batter, not melted chocolate.

    I love Isabelle's "curves"

  26. i think brownie taste is the only thing that matters :)

    love her little rolls!!

  27. that's too funny! I hate it when recipes don't end up looking like the product on the box!
That pic of Isabelle cracks me up!

  30. Oh no! I hate when a plan doesn’t happen the way it does in our heads! Don’t fee too bad, the last time I made brownies I bombed because I totally forgot to add sugar (what is a brownie without sugar, you ask…well it is terrible)

    {I love how you took us in for a “close up” of the evidence ;) }

  31. Just found your blog. The rolls are sooooooo cute!

  32. As most people are saying I would try and use bakers chocolate bars or i think they have pieces..if not chop them up into pieces and put them back in the oven. Either way, who cares as long as they were delish!!!

I actually had a baking fail (well partially) lastnight too, I'll be blogging about that next week.

And your daughter is soo cute!!!

  33. Oh honey! That's to funny. I have no idea what went wrong because I would have done the same thing. Isabelle is adorable!
