You help me, I help you

First, make sure you've entered my Easter Bunny Picture giveaway and my super awesome Happy Baby giveaway! All winners will be announced on Friday...and how cool would it be if YOU were one of them?!

So I'm pretty new to blogger and google friend connect and all that. I started my blog with this post and have since wrote over a hundred more. I've learned a lot about blogging and design and adding widgets and related things in the last few months, but I know I still have a lot to learn. I enjoy learning and tweaking my blog as I go along. Google is my friend :)

Now I'm wondering...
How do you keep up with the blogs you follow?
Do you click and read through blogger dashboard, like in this screen shot?

Or do you use your google reader, like this:
And which do you prefer? And why??

Currently, I use the blogger dashboard, but I'm wondering if I should use my google reader instead. Except that I don't know how to use it...are there special tips or tricks I need to know about?

Ha! I must sound so ignorant :)

I know I titled this you help me, I help you....but I don't know what I could help you with right now.
Any requests? Questions? Feel free to ask!

  1. I often use google reader and tried to figure out the dashboard but couldnt really? I am sure it is easy and I am just crazy. Is there no way to comment directly from those things? That drives me crazy if so. I gotta get better at this blog thing. It took me like 3 months to learn how to use color. ha. I do like google reader though. I am not being very helpful so I hope that we can learn together!!

  2. Google Reader confuses me..... I normally just use the dashboard and go down the list of the people I follow (that way I just see one person at a time). I don't know if its the most efficient way.... but then again, I'm normally reading blogs because I think its fun than to be efficient. lol

  3. I use dashboard and just click on the blog(s) I want to look at! I tried google reader but didn't feel as comfortable with it.

  4. I use both, but sometimes don't think I know the most efficient way to use them either :)

  5. I use my dashboard and love it. I only tried Google Reader once (about a week ago) and I disliked it very much. One thing I was wondering is if the bloggers with ads installed get pageview "credit" when people read their posts from Google Reader. When I was on, I noticed that the ads don't show up. Just wondering...

  6. I like the google reader because it let's you group blogs into folders (I organize mine by topic mostly; sometimes by how I "know" the blogger, like from a certain group or hop). Then, I can go through one folder at a time if I don't have much time. Maybe you can do that in dashboard, too, and I just never figured it out!

  7. I use my dashboard. I think that reader is kind of a waste because you can't comment using it. So you can read it and then you have to click on the link to open the blog to comment. I comment on all the blogs that I read, so that's just pointless for me.

  8. I use blogger dashboard. That is what I have bookmarked. I first enter my blog through the dashboard, scroll through the blogs I follow and click on any titles that interested me. And then I do it again. I ended up in reader one time, and didn't care for it.

  9. I only use Google Reader. It's great. I love the "mark all as read" option :) Plus, you can use keyboard shortcuts like "j" to skip to the next post or "k" to go back one. You have to enable those shortcuts on google options (I think it's one of the betas).

I seriously love Google and all of the applications like document sharing and the calendar, so the Reader makes the most sense to me.

  10. I use both and switch back and forth between them. If I'm logged in to Blogger working on a post, I'll use the Dashboard. But sometimes it's just easier to use Google.

  11. I like dashboard, but I've never tried google reader. Once I'm used to something and it works for me, I don't see a point in changing :)

  12. I'm a new-be at this blogging thing too. I wish I didn't have to work and could just learn about blogger all day! I use my dashboard. Never even tried google reader...it's on my to-do list-"try google reader".

  14. I follow a ton of blogs! What I normally do is go through the dashboard. I installed Google Reader on my phone and now I go thru them all on there when I have time. I star the posts I want to view on my computer. I then go to Google Reader on my laptop and view my starred posts. It seems to help so I don't get too far behind. I think I am following too many blogs though!

  17. Honestly, and I might be a dork by doing this, but I just go down my list that's on my blog. Or I'll use the dashboard. I've never used reader, might have to look into it though!

  18. I mostly use the dashboard and I like it a lot but I know that many people prefer the google reader. Have a fantastic day, sweetie

  19. I used to just click onto other blogs from my own blog, but just the other day (finally) started "following" people and I've been going to Google Reader to do so. I don't like that you can't comment from it though. I also wondered about if it "counted" for people sitemeters/ads etc. if you read them from Google reader.

So glad I'm not the only one that's confused by it!

  20. Dashboard, baby.

That is...when I have time...which is little as of late...but you know that.

Feel special. I'm on your blog. ;)

    (I know you do.)

Though, you may be rather I be working on your order. Ha!

  22. Congrats on your awards (newest post) and thanks for joining me at Create With Joy - I am following you back!

I use both the Dashboard and the Reader but here is a trick I learned with the Reader that I love. You can do Searches on it - so, for instance, if you enter a giveaway on another site - sign up for their RSS feed - then, you can search for yourself by name to see if you have won a prize! It's also a great way to search for topics of interest - and a great back-up when the Dashboard doesn't work properly (as is the case when you follow a LOT of blogs!)

Happy Easter - and if you have a chance, stop by and share your thoughts on Blog Advertising!

  23. Thanks for this post! I had never used Google reader before until today. After I read this I checked it out at work this morning. I can't read most blogs from work (darn government computers!) but if I use Google reader I can read them all! Google reader is my new best friend!

  24. Wish I could say I knew how to use the reader LOL. I just blog hop. I always get lost.

  25. I use the Dashboard...but as you know I am completely blog incompetent. I need a Blogger 101 Course :)

  26. I use both, but Dashboard is the one I use the most. I like using Dashboard because I can more easily add posts to my own blog, check statistics, etc. from there. Google Reader has lots of fun options though too!
