Family Photo (what I wore)

Lately, I've been feeling really dissatisfied with my wardrobe. Being a stay at home mom, I don't really have any reason for getting dressed up, or even getting much beyond presentable. The majority of my days revolve around chasing down my increasingly mobile one year old, doing laundry, vacuuming, grocery shopping, making dinner, supervising homework, going for walks outside and changing countless diapers. The likelihood that I will end up dirty or covered in food from Isabelle is high.

It's glamorous. Living the dream.

So most days, you'll find me in ratty shorts and a t-shirt. Leggings and a tee. Every now and then, I'll spice things up and choose jean shorts and a fitted shirt.

But lately, I just feel sloppy. I still have no occasion for which I need to look nicer, and my daily activities with a chance of dirtiness are still the same.

I want to look nicer...but for what? To crawl around on the floor picking up toys? Kneeling at the side of the bathtub bathing baby? Seems unnecessary. But I see all these stylish women, and quite honestly, I'm envious.

Anyway, we took pictures for Isabelle's first birthday a few weeks ago, and took a few new family photos as well. It was a nice excuse to look a little more put together. Nothing fancy. Just better than the typical "I'm a stay at home mom" outfit.

My skirt and tank are from Loft. I got them this summer, my very first purchase from Loft. My jacket is old school bebe that I've had for years. It's a classic.

Ideally, I'd love to be a little dressier and more feminine like this everyday...but it just doesn't seem very practical.

What's your typical outfit on any given day?

  1. Y'all are such a sweet family! I stay in my pajamas most days when I'm at home! Haha.

  3. Your outfit is adorable...and I LOVE LOVE LOVE AT Loft clothing!!! I'm in work clothes all week but my casual weekend attire is pretty much tees and shorts too!

  4. Summertime, my go to out fit is definitely shorts and a tee. But fall and winter I usually throw on jeans and a sweater, so thrilling, right?

  5. I love the outfit. Most days I wear exactly what I wore to bed, until I finally get a chance to take a shower. Then, I put on some new pajama's because by then the day is almost over. And if Kayla's teachers are lucky, I'll actually throw on some jeans for them. (I don't have to get out of the car so I usually don't get dressed for that either.)

  6. love the outfit! you look gorgeous. if i could live in sweatpants most days...i would try :) but i usually have to dress up for work, etc. Luckily I work at a prison so I dont feel like I have to be on my "best looks" all the time though ;)

  9. Well as a stay at home momma of infant twins I totally get you! When I am at home I usually wear work out clothes but when I go out for errands I always take a little time to make myself pretty. Nothing fancy, I am still comfortable but stylish. Not because I care at all about what others think, I do it because it makes ME feel good. Plus those looks of "how does she do it?" make me feel like super mom!

  10. Right now? My maternity dress pants and either one of my few maternity shirts or some of my regular shirts that still fit. :) Usually I'm a high heels gal BUT I'm incredibly awkward so I've been keeping it safe with some ballet flats while I have a baby-in-residence. :)
Actually this whole pregnancy has me feeling a little frumpy (mainly because my pregnancy hormones has caused my normally fantastic hair to decide it doesn't want to do ANYTHING.... and I feel like my clothes don't ever fit right) but Clayton was nice enough to reassure me last night that HE still thinks I look great. He's such a good hubby.

  11. I dress for work everyday...usually dress pants and a sweater/blouse. My dream is lululemon...everyday.

  12. Ah I completely understand the feeling. (not that you don't already know) but I wear pretty much shorts/pants and a tshirt every day... this includes weekends. Sometimes on week days when I feel particularly blah it's nothing short of pjs (but I wear yoga shorts and a tshirt as pjs so really is that even considered pjs? idk) It's not that I don't want nice things or have them, it's that my daily life or lack there of doesn't necessitate an interesting wardrobe. I always envy those that their hair always looks beautiful as if they just got it done, and their clothes lack stains and look more than just thrown on last min. but I wouldn't trade what I do on a daily basis for any awesome wardrobe or hair style in the world. It's a sacrifice I'd make again and again.

  13. Since I see students almost everyday it does force me to be somewhat presentable! But that's still just usually jeans and a cute shirt, still nothing fancy. I'd like to think that if I was exclusively at home all day long by myself I'd still get dressed upish, but probably wouldn't be the case!

  14. I understand where you are coming from. When I was a full-time student in my undergrad study, I fell into the sloppy sweatpants/sneakers/hoodie uniform. It was difficult to break out of that, but it felt much better when I did. I didn't necessarily have a reason to stop wearing that uniform of comfiness, but I wanted a change because, I mean, ew. Nobody should have to feel like they don't have a reason to get glammed up. Sometimes, it's just to make yourself feel better.

  15. First of all, beautiful photo!!
And I totally understand where you are coming from. If I could live in my Juicy sweatpants, a tank top and flip flops I would. There are a few moms at my son's school who look FABULOUS every day. I feel like such a scrub next to them. They have actually inspired me to try and look nicer on a daily basis. Sometimes I put in the effort and sometimes I don't. I will tell you...on the days I put in the effort, I feel a lot better about myself. :)

  16. Great family photo! Your outfit is really cute, and you look fabulous! My everyday attire for work (I'm a secretary at an oilfield company) is jeans and a cute sometimes just plain t-shirt. I try to look nice, but nothing fancy as I get dirty sometimes without even trying. But on the weekends, I love doing my hair and putting something fun on (even if it just jeans)!

  17. Awww I love the family pic, you all look great! My everyday outfit is jeans, a tank & flip flops or Uggs & a sweater depending on the weather, I *want* to dress fancier but comfort rules my life
